1155 or change?

Hello. In the near future I will be upgrading my PC, but I am wanting the opinion of others before I do so. I currently have a low end Z77, 1150 socket motherboard with an i5 3750k stock clocks. I was wondering if it would be worth the upgrade to a 4790k or just to a 3770k?

Thanks (:

nope, i would say even switching from the 2500k isnt worth it over a new GPU

Nah, it's not worth it. Nothing has changed from 1155 to 1150 to 1151 besides slightly better heat output

The thing is I am thinking about doing a Crossfire config in the future with my current R9 290. My current mobo only has a PCI-e 3.0 16x and then a PCI-e 4x. Since the Z77 chipset is now "outdated" I am unsure about buying second hand mobos that are capable of my needs.

I recently just upgraded my graphics from a GTX 750 Ti to a R9 290. I could spend the money in other places like storage and cooling I guess.

Thats most likely what I am going to do besides getting a new heatsink for my CPU and a new case.

I was also thinking about getting a FX-8350 but I am unsure since I haven't used AMD CPU's for a while now

Alright since you have a FX-6300 I will take your advice. I have a friend that also has a FX-6300 and he says its pretty bad.

Unless you do streaming or rendering (3d, video, hell even Photoshop) it's gonna be a pretty noticeable downgrade.

I do stream (when my ISP isn't throttling my upload to Twitch but thats a whole other topic).

How often and at what settings?

Well whenever I am not getting throttled. Thats usually at the start of the months and usually around 3 - 4 times a week. Settings currently are of veryfast encoding, 30 fps with a bitrate of 2500 kbps. 1920x1080 downscale to 1280x720.

Personally, I'd say go with an FX-8320E and a cheap AM3+ motherboard then since you stream often.

The FX-8350 is actually pretty cheap on Amazon right now, so I might need to purchase one before the deal ends.

The other thing is right now to get a AMD CPU and Mobo is the same price as to get a 2nd hand 3770k, so I guess that it will be worth it. I have been running with the ASUS P8Z77 LX2 board now since around 2012 so I think it is time for a change.

Yeah, I'd do either a Xeon E3-1231v2 or a 3770K
