Amd does not care about you...

they care about profits

So does every other company...

intel and Nvidia is still the best choice for the ultimate gamer

that WILL change with the 9XXX series

and WILL change back with the 8XX series

and so on and so forth

Intel and Nvidia are not necessarily for the ultimate gamer. Gaming isn't too taxing on the CPU so I'm sure the difference between AMD FX and Intel i5/i7 would be negligible. Would there even be a constant difference?( Noticing how FPS usually fluctuates) Like you said Nvidia and AMD are trying to top each other. No clear winner, usually. (Though AMD 9000 series is supposed to directly compete with the gtx700 series, and according to rumors, seems to be the winner in both sheer performance as well as price/performance).

It also seemed 7000 series beat the gtx600 series after matured drivers. 7970 as of now has a slight edge over gtx680, 7990 is the fastest graphics card, etc. The gtx800 series is going to compete with AMD "whatever they call it" series (10000?) We'll have to see the sheer performance then, but now, I don't see how Intel and Nvidia are ultimate.
