Indonesia

Saved some room for exchange rates, indoneasian prices,etc...

I am considering to upgrade my CPU/Motherboard, and possibly RAM in December to push more juice from my recently bought GTX 970.

My current system from late 2011 is :

- Core i5 2400

- ASUS P8Z68-M Pro

- G Skill DDR3 PC12800 2x 4GB RL 9-9-9-24

I don't think I'll need higher RAM capacity just yet, so if possible, I want to retain them.

I read that CPU Heatsink is also no different for LGA 1151, so I think I can also retain them for Skylake system.

I have couple considerations

Motherboard option & chipset:

I see B150, H170, Z170 in the market.

Other than the differences listed in Wiki page (USB port /PCI-E slot differences, mostly), is there anything that I should be aware of?

Does my old DDR3 will work on any Skylake motherboard? Or there's only some type that support DDR3?

CPU Benchmark:

I wish to save some more bucks by going either 6500/6400. Now the problem is I haven't seen any real benchmark (other than the one posted in cpu-monkey and cpubenchmark, which I felt rather incomplete). I'm particularly interested on how they fare in games.

Thank you in Advance,

I don't think some of those boards will support DDR3.

I haven't seen one unfortunately.

There is DDR3L, but that might not be an option.

Thank you in Advance,

Do you have a budget? A skylake upgrade will require you to at least buy a new mobo,DDR4 RAM and an aftermarket cooler if you want to overclock.

I have no intention for overclocking, my i5 2400 has been serving me well in this past 4 years without overclocking. I'd assume I'll be fine as well in next 4 years without overclocking.

For budget... if I can't keep my RAM, then I suspect my budget would be around ~USD470, otherwise I'll try to push it around ~USD410.

P.S : I don't live in US, so my budget definitely get hit hard due to recent USD strengthening.

Thanks,

So Haswell refresh system allow me to retain my old RAM?

Any other features I'd be missing by going Haswell refresh? Other than DDR4 support, and USB3.1 (Should I make a big deal about USB3.1 at this time?)

I don't really see any significant feature of Skylake.(that's just me)

You'll be fine with Haswell Refresh.
