Not advertizing a product

Go to solution Solved by ChasingPluto,

but how does one plus do it?

OnePlus still has marketing it just doesn't pay for it. It uses the media to market the phone for them. Use of controversy (the invite system in this case) is a great way to get free marketing because media outlets eat that stuff up

I had a question about marketing and things relating to tech marketing. I have seen how the one plus one does not advertize their products at all, therefore lowering the amount of money they need to make their phones at. Could this be the case for processors, and possibly GPU's as well? Could there hypothetically be a company that did not advertize their products, therefore lowering the cost dramatically? Either this is a thing

OR i dont know how one plus makes their phones so cheap

if someone could either

explain my mistake

or

tell me how this could work for a new GPU company

advertising*

It depends on situation. Samsung and Apple spend hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising. OnePlus gets away with by:

1. Not spending money on advertising

2. Selling the phones at cost.

The second point is the most important because the idea behind selling at cost is the company doesn't make a profit off the item so OnePlus should be selling the phones at the cost of their production. The only way they can do that is because they are a subsidiary of a much larger company. But also McDonalds and Coca-Cola spend billions on advertising and their products cost next to nothing to make and sell so it really depends on the market.

Not sure how they do it. But as it stands oneplus is owned by a Chinese company called Oppo. And Oppo is owned by a company call BKK Electronics. So it sounds very much like a shell game to me as they pay a crap load of tax.

shell game..?

free marketing

The most profitable game franchise in the history of game franchises started with free marketing. It was Grand Theft Auto. Oh and you remember that Steam that got pulled for excessive violence? Well the developers were kind enough to thank the media and everyone for making such a big deal of it because they got loads of free marketing

Well, if I was in charge of a GPU company what I would do is make a controversial faceplate for the GPU and just let the media go ham. I would say what but I don't want my idea stolen :P
