A guy in one of the google+ groups has a little experiment going with 970s and 390s.  Running Valley on Extreme settings.  Just a bit of fun.  Would love to see some good running 390s join in on it.

Valley has a lot of Tessellation and will perform better on the 970. No real need for this.

Can't it be turned off?  Which benchmark would you suggest?  Firestrike also has tessellation....  ??

Games really - those are the best benchmark. I regard Valley as a stress test more than benchmark.

EDIT: Example

I get a lower score than a stock 770 in valley by about 100-200 points usually

But I've matched a stock 770 in certain games.

Well, not everyone owns the same games in order to test them.  Don't wanna play, don't.  It's just a bit of fun.  Nobody is going to take your birthday away.  I promise.

My birthday? huh?

Well - there are always free to play games. I mean - Planetside 2, Dota 2 and such.

Firestrike would be ideal for both in this situation.

Which the 290X usually did pull ahead if the owner knew what he was doing.

That guy is acting like a 390X can even compare to a 980, lols.

PEWDIEPIE DONT CROSS THAT BRIDGE

Yeah..no idea why he chose those settings, but...whatever.

He didn't choose any settings, he clicked a preset.

Not sure why he clicked extreme preset, extremeHD is more of a commonly accepted benchmark.

Right, but he chose the "Extreme" preset intead of the "Extreme HD" preset.  1080 is pretty standard.

Doesn't Firestrike have some tessellation in it too though?

A bit, but the performance #'s from Firestrike generally lineup exactly with in-game performance.

So if one card is faster in firestrike, it's generally faster in games that are properly optimized.

Hmm....not many Firestrike scores for 390s out there.  Most of the ones that are there, are pretty poor.  They must not be overclocked a whole lot.  = /

The 290X are putting up good scores though.  Weird...I thought they'd be about the same.
