NAS or no NAS

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

The drive is just like any other drive, but it's designed to run 24/7. NAS drives tend to be a bit slower than normal desktop drives, as faster RPM generally means shorter life span. As for setting up a NAS, you will need some sort of enclosure for the drive (a NAS enclosure) or put it in a PC to run as a dedicated NAS (don't think you can have a NAS running alongside/with Windows).

If you are just looking for a large drive with good reliability, then you can just format the drive like you would a normal desktop drive. You will need to set it to GPT in Windows, as MBR has issues with drives over 2TB or so. For a NAS, there's more things you'll need, and you may have to set up some NAS software, depending on the solution you go for.

hi

i am planning on buying a large drive for storage and want to make sure this will work for my setup and needs before buying.

i want to use the new drive for storing video, games and other data.

the only reason i'm considering this drive is because i was told by someone at a local store that it would have a long lifespan compared to others .

1.can i just format a nas drive and use it like a normal one ?

2.are there any downsides to using a nas ?

3. will this drive work ?
