Hi guys,

I have 2 videos which I want to sync, one of them has audio and one of them doesn't, the one which has audio is slowed down. I think from 60fps to 12.467fps. The clip with audio is at 30fps. How can I sync them properly? I have adobe premiere pro cc. The clips were taken on my moto g 2nd gen, and on my friends s6, but using the WhatsApp recorder.

If someone will be willing to do it for me, I will be great full, but if not, then I need instructions in premiere.

Thanks

Gershy13

Ok

  1. When you say slowed down, do you mean it was recorded in 60fps and time remapped in Premiere Pro to be slow motion?
  2. Each video clip was recording the same scene? Same scene recorded with two different cameras, each video clip about similar length of time?
  3. Unfortunately you cannot automatically sync two video files if one doesn't have audio.  Syncing tools such as PluralEyes are for syncing multiple audio and video (with audio) files.  It relies on analyzing the audio waveform.  So you will have to align the two video clips manually.

Now to align the two video files, import them both into the same sequence.  Even if Premiere tells you that the clip you are putting into the sequence and the sequence settings do not match, ignore it.  When you render out, Premiere will render out to the frame rate of the sequence, or to whatever you select in Media Encoder.  (e.g. 60fps video inserted into 30fps sequence)

It was slowed down by my phone... Auto magically[emoji12]

The 2 videos aren't the same length, so some of it has to be cut off.

Each video clip was recording the same scene? Same scene recorded with two different cameras, each video clip about similar length of time give or take when the person pressed start stop on the camera, regardless of the frame rate they were recorded?

If you want to speed up the slowed down video, insert it into a sequence and time remap to be faster.

Yeah, but from different angles, and the clip from my phone (slowed down no audio) is separated into 2 videos (so there is a little gap from when I pressed stop to record again)

Can you re-read my comments, I made a few edits.  And fully explain what you want to do with the videos?  And tell me about each video, which one exactly has the audio, the slowed down version or the normal version?

OK, so I need to speed up one (technically 2, because its in 2 different clips) clips, to be normal speed, then sync it to the video with audio. (If it helps, there is visible and audible clapping.

Ok I can help you normalize the speeds of the slowmo videos.

  • Create a new project, obviously
  • Import all the videos into Premiere's project folder
  • Identify the recorded frame rate of each video, in the project files panel
  • If the normal one is for example 30fps and the slowed down are 12fps (depending on how your camera encoded the video files, it may not show exact fps)
  • Right click, create sequence from clip for each of the slowmo videos, just to make managing things easier
  • Right click on the video (on the video track, not the audio track if there is any) in the sequence timeline > Show Clip Frames > Time Remapping > Speed
  • In the Effects Controls panel change the speed percentage under Time remapping.  You will have to do some calculation to figure out what amount of percentage change is required to match the normal video's frame rate

Yup, the problem is, I don't know how much to speed it up... The calculation is what stumped me.

according to premiere, the slowed down clips are 12.47fps and the normal clips are 30fps.

I have a feeling the slowed down clips were recorded in 60fps.

Try speeding it up by a factor of 240%.

Basic calculation is Recording frame rate / Slowed frame rate.  30/12.47 = about 2.40

Ok in that case, what frame rate does your phone record the slow motion.

If it was recording at 60fps and then playing back at 12.47fps, then the calculation is 60/12.47 and not 30/12.47.  Or about 481% instead of 240%.

My iPhone for example, I know records 120fps slow motion videos but in Premiere Pro it registers as 29.97 fps.  So I simply had to increase the speed about 400% to get the video to appear as if it was normal speed.  Now doing this, a 4 minute video turns into a 1 minute video.

Wow 52.275fps is a non-standard frame rate for a video.  Standard frame rates are

  1. 23.97
  2. 24
  3. 25
  4. 29.97
  5. 30
  6. 50
  7. 59.97

yup, im not sure about that.

But i just realised, i can save my video on my phone in normal speed, with about a second of slow motion, so if i cut that second out, everything is in normal speed.

So all i need to do now, is sync em.

I have no idea how your phone is recording and encoding the videos, to come up with non-standard frame rates is.... WTF are the people who designed the phone's software or app thinking.  Or is it a feature that lets you determine on the fly how slow or fast you want to record with the turn of a control knob?

If you could send me a sample clip via something like WeTransfers that would be nice, I'd like to study the properties of the file. And tell me what settings you used in the phone.

Looking up the specs for your phone now, Moto G 2nd Gen right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_G_%282nd_generation%29

Hmm interesting discussion here

Another case is modern smartphones. For example, my brother's Moto G (2nd gen) records VFR videos. It lowers the frame rate when the sensor needs more light. Some of the output from running mediainfo on an mp4 created by the phone's software, recorded indoors:

http://video.stackexchange.com/questions/13322/are-there-only-a-few-standard-video-frame-rates

Learning something new each day, first time I've seen an actual video recording using VFR.  I've never encountered it in any of the cameras I've used before.  I wonder what benefits it would hold over videos with standard frame rates.

EDIT: if your video clips have different frame rates at different moments, you will have a harder time syncing it up with constant frame rate clips, you will have to key each segment for different time remapping.

Yup, that's mine. I sensed it does, because when I turn the exposure up, it looks choppy.

The advantages are, I think, slowing the fps then slowing the shutter speed, to get more light. That's why the lowlight video isn't that bad, other than being choppy.

Yeah, I might convert it from variable to constant using handbrake, and then try and sync it.

I don't think I would ever be able to work with VFR that I cannot manage or control.  I agree that there may be certain benefits to using VFR, but if I cannot set the values or range of values to use, at what times to use them, etc. I wouldn't like it.  I prefer having almost full manual control over my camera settings.

Well good luck and hope your video comes out ok.  Let me know if you need help with other video editing topics.
