My Build log.

DarrenP

Hey guys,

I though I should maybe do a new build log, mostly out of boredom and need for something to do.

So here goes, Most of the parts have been bought over the last 9 months, with some being carried over from my last build. I'll include prices paid in CAD dollars, and a little rationale behind each part. Most parts were bought at launch thus they cost a fucking fortune, that mixed with the fact i live in the middle of nowhere.

So here goes, pictures will come later when i update.

Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K: I paid about $445 + Tax (13%!) roughly $500 CAD. Kinda wish in this price range i'd have bought a 5820K, though when i bought this i don't recall if the 5820K was out yet... I don't think it was. I bought this, because what I do needs the hyperthreading vs. just grabbing the 4690K. I can't stand i5's. They don't preform well enough for all of the multi-tasking I do.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100I with 4xSP120 high performance fans. With the fans this thing costs about $180 Tax included. This is the oldest part i actually own right now that's in this rig. It's one of the very first parts I bought for my first rig, I'm looking to upgrade to the H100I GTX soon Not due to performance or anything, more so because i like the sleeved tubes of the H100I GTX. I'm looking at the H100I GTX rather than the H110 GT or GTX because I can still use my jet turbine fans, instead of spending another 60 bucks on fans.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK: This bad boy cost about $260, The reason behind this part... Kinda silly, but it was the best featured, high end motherboard the Canada Computers in my area had. I love this board.

Memory: Corsair Vengeance Silver 16GB Kit 2x8GB 1866Mhz RAM CL9. I spent about $140 on this kit a few months ago and love it. The cheaper brother to the Corsair Dominator Platinums.

Graphics Card: I just swapped this out, I have an ASUS GTX 690. However sold that to a member on the forums a few weeks ago, and just purchased an EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0. I spent $750 with shipping and tax, it should be here tomorrow or the next day. I can’t wait.

Storage: I currently have a weird storage config. I have a 256GB MX100 SSD as a boot drive, that will be getting swapped to storage soon when I gather the funds to afford a Intel 750 400GB. That’s a story for another day though. It cost about $140 on sale. I also have a 2TB WD RED 7200RPM Drive that i’ve had forever, I spent about $110 on that. I also have a D-Link DNS 320L that has 2x2TB 7200RPM Seagate Barracudas in it for my network storage. Total cost on the NAS: $300.

Power Supply: I currently have a Corsair HX1050, paid about $250, however the screw mounts are stripped to shit and stretched so I need to get a new PSU, because I can’t stand ghetto mounting things. I’m trying to decide on what to get, drop some opinions below.

Case: I have a Corsair 900D sitting in the closet just yearning to get used for this build. It was used for my original build. I paid a whopping $500 for this case, and in that price range I wished I had gone with a Caselabs case… Ugh live and learn I guess.

Next would be I guess my peripherals, I have quite a wide variety of peripherals. I’ll just list them with prices that I paid next to them, as well as simple specs so you guys wont have to look them up if you’re curious. :P

Monitors:

Acer P236HL, 23”, 1920x1080, 60hz, 16:9, 5Ms Response time. - $150

ASUS VH222H, 21.5”, 1920x1080, 60hz, 16:9, 5Ms Response time. $70 - Garage sale

BenQ RL2455HM, 24”, 1920x1080, 60hz, 16:9, 1Ms Response time. $260

Keyboard:

Logitech G710+ Cherry MX Brown Keyboard $130

Mice:

CM Strom Sentinel Advance II 8200Dpi, $60

Logitech Performance MX $150 - Soon to be swapped with an MX Master

Mic:

Blue Yeti $150

Mousepad:

Steel Series QcK $15

Headphones:

Bose QC15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones. Free - Gift.

So what my setup consists of. In it’s current state, it’s cost me about 4 grand Canadian. Some justification  behind all that before someone says well you could have done much better for 4K. I know. I know. However most of the parts are reused from my original builds. It’s not finished yet, and probably never will be. I’ll be re-building it as it’s all boxed up on my desk right now. When my new GPU comes in so look forward to that. I’ll also be adding a few parts as the journey progress’s, and perhaps a 4K or 1440 144hz monitor. Haven’t decided yet.

Thanks for reading!

Got any pics?

I'll be uploading tomorrow or the next day.

Is that the 750 PCIe or 2.5 drive?

Yeah I plan to get the PCIe one.
