OriginPC, System76 or something else...

I am a university student and I have been searching for good workstation laptop. I don't want a desktop because I will be moving out the of country for quite a few years. So I want an easily moveable workstation. I have two laptops in mind.

1) System76 Bonobo Extreme https://www.system76.com/laptops/model/bonx6

2) OriginPC EON17-S Pro http://www.originpc.com/Laptops/Professional/EON17-S-Pro/Default.aspx?TAB=FEATURES&ACTIVE=TRUE&SYSTEMID=14

The specifications of both the laptops are pretty similar. They even have the same chassis. The only difference is that System76 has Ubuntu pre-installed and OriginPC has Windows 7/8. I already have an unused copy of Windows 7.

I will use this laptop mostly for virtual machines, video editing and multithreaded programs. Both the laptops have an option for 3rd Gen i7 3740QM processor. Is that a good processor for the above tasks?

The next confusion is which graphics card should I choose? System76 has an option of GeForce 670MX and 680M and they have a difference of about 400 Cuda cores. OriginPC has option from the 650M and above. I am a casual gamer but is getting a 680M a good choice? Will it help me improve the performance in multimedia editing?

Windows,

There. this is one of rare occasions I support Windows.

Of course Ubuntu uses less resources which is better for VMs

But there also is a lack of powerful video editing software.

And you wrote multithreaded programs, Which raises the question if the programs you are going to use are Linux compatible, like, at all.

If not you could run them in Wine. which will give you less of an performance than the real deal.

and if you would be going for a 1,2 or 3 TB Hard Disk config, you could just dual boot

This is my honest opinion,

Peace
