Motherboard Problems

So I was recently fixing my computer that had died and I bought brand new CPU, RAM and a Motherboard. I got everything together and I was just going to boot it up by manually connecting the front panel power pins, I saw a big spark and now the computer does not boot up at all. No signs of life whatsoever. I may have connected the wrong pins. Can this kill a Motherboard?

Unplug the IO other than the power switch.

I don't see plugging say the positive LED to the Negative LED input would do anything like that.
