Studio recording setup

So I am recording specific sounds for reasons its not in my right to specifically share however its come to my attention I will need a reasonably decent setup for recording audio.

I know very little about audio recording so if someone could recommend some equipment that would be great, mic, shockmount, popfilter are necessities and an arm would be nice but as a luxury, preferably to a total of £150 or less and any help would be awesome :D

Would you just be recording voice or will you also record other sources of sound? Will you be mixing in more than one source at a time?

all depends on the style of recording you are doing . I use a presonus studio live 16.4,2 firewire into a purpose built rig I did expressly for recording. I use a midi controller for some sounds , into reaper as my Primary DAW (best bang for your buck for a good GP Daw) and use ISOTOPE for effects and Reason for mastering. The 150 sterling price point you give is pretty low , possibly an M-Audio fast track , if you can find one used and a cad condenser mic gxl2200, if you can find one used. I use Shure sm57's for intrument mics where a DI is not present (marshall amps , etc) and a few Senheiser 935 silver faces when I want to mix DI and speaker sounds. I use Neuman TLM-193 (2) for vocals and CAD Premium 7 PC drum mics , 2 Gxl 2200's for ambient drum and sm 57's for cymbals and floor toms. the setup I have is a bit pricier than what you are looking for , but basics will be a USB interface , hate to say it , but a decent mic . even an sm58 will do the job for you but will still run you about 125 dollars. for simple off the floor acoustic recordings , I use my Neumans , a 57 overhead and my zoom r16 interfaced , where i seem to get the acoustic sweet spot

this is a quick and dirty recording of a song we wrote , three of us , off the floor , three mics , 2 takes . very little editing , no effects , just for a song writing competition, total time invested about 2 hours
