Every time they used to do a Strawpoll, they would have X number of actual answers (yes, no, etc.) and then a joke one, such as "Yoghurt", "Grapefruit", etc. Turnip was used, and for some inexplicable reason it became really popular, so they started using it in every WAN show, printing T Shirts and stuff like that. I don't think anyone knows why really, it just sort of became a popular thing (like most memes, I guess)
