Hello everyone,

I got a new machine yesterday, so naturally yesterday was update day. Got about 160 of those. About an hour or so ago, I told the machine to reboot, and now that I've checked on it it's still in the 'restarting' screen.

It only say restarting, the Windows 8.1 circle thingy is happily rotating, no "installing updates, please don't shut off your computer".

Any suggestions how to fix it?

I should mention that this came without a Windows install disk and not even a serial number. I forgot to check that with a tool before updating, so screwing up the OS would kind of be a pain in the ass, especially since I don't know how to boot to a USB (tried it on a different device of the same line, didn't work at all) on this thing.

Cheers!

Those updates aren't reliant on Windows 10 I don't think, cause I never did them, Windows 10 was handed out in sections, so you may not have been given it yet.

Oh wait, now it says

'Failure confiuing Windows updates

Undoing Changes'

so I guess it unfroze.

However I'd really like those updates so I can get Windows 10...

I was going to say to just turn it off cause the updates were probably messed up lol, what you need to do is install like only 20 updates at a time the oldest ones first

No, you need to have a certain update for the Get Windows 10 App to show up (and for that update you need the ones before...). Past that point, it's irrelevant though.

I've never updated Windows 8....

That's really strange. I assume I could just do a clean install, but eh.

Yeah, was going to try that next. I kinda thought that the thing might not be able to handle all them updates, but after my laptop could a few weeks ago... (well, that's the difference between an Atom and an i7 I guess)
