Greetings

I am currently building a mid range workstation computer for someone doing studies and working. She is using Autodesk Maya, 3D Max, Resolume and other visual effects programs and won't be gaming at all.

The problem I am having is her budget here is the hardware I have chosen so far:

Intel 5820k

Asus X99 Pro

32GB 2133MHz Memory

512GB SSD

Now I am stuck with GPU as I know almost nothing regarding Quadro cards.

I know that the K4200 would be recommended but that is slightly out of my budget so how would the K2200 or FirePro cards compare to lets say a 970/980 ?

All information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

You're right, I would recommend the K4200 xD Don't suppose you could get a cheaper motherboard instead?

The K2200 is decent enough though. I do not think it would be a good idea to get a GTX 970 or 980 for this case. Also be careful of advice below, this forum is mainly made up of gamers and most people here don't know much about workstation graphics cards (but will give advice anyway).

I figured that the K4200 would be the recommend GPU but like I said the cost is a little high.

What about the FirePros ? ... How would they compare to the Quadro card ? ...

Unfortunately I don't know much about how the FirePros perform. :( Sorry

I remember a while ago firepros were kicking quadros in the nards in terms of performance. That was last gen though. Iirc the firepro w7xxx series were really good. Thought about a second hand one?

Firepros also work but NVIDIA has CUDA which allows cpu computing on the gpu, which is awesome for rendering. And make sure the GPU you are getting has enough vram.

You can go a little cheaper on the Mother board though.

For the gpu you can also go with a titanx and k4200 is on sale at Newegg right now for 720$
