So, I live in Canada and I currently have a Benq XL2420Z and am looking to upgrade. Tragically, the only 1440p G-Sync monitor in Canada is the ROG Swift, given that it's a year old is it still work getting for $900? Or should I just live without Gsync and get the non Gsync version for $600?

No it aint worth it.

For for some of the 144hz IPS`s with gsync to appear in Canada or even one of the 100hz 3440x1440 IPS gsync`s. THAT would be a worthy upgrade.

Just going from 144hz to 144hz gsync wont be that big a deal. Definitely not 900$ worth it lol.
