Hi Guys,

I am running a old PC with the following config

MotherBoard : MSI RS480

CPU : Athlon 64 3500+

RAM : DDR1- 3GB

GPU : Radeon HD 4870

PSU : CM 600watts

Hard Disk : 80gb [OS - Pata], 120gb [sata], 320gb [Pata], 120gb[old OS - Sata]

I bought a SSD and tried cloning my OS to the ssd drive. I am using "EaseUS 8.6" free edition to make a clone. I was successful in making the clone but when I try to use the SSD as my primary OS drive it goes in and after the window xp screen I get the Blue screen...

Not sure why that was happening....I cloned the same OS to one of my the SATA drives which had my older OS. Now for that I had to copy stuff off the older drive so I moved it to my SSD to get it copied to my Laptop. And I hit another problem on the laptop[WIN 7. HP DV3] it says the the drive is dynamic and Invalid.

Question:

1 - Will there be any problem or short coming to change my ssd drive from dynamic to basic?

  IF YES:

   > Will the Disk Management tool do it without deleting my files from the SSD?

  If No:

   > What is the recommended steps I should take

2. Why dosent my Old PC not able to use this SSD as the primary drive? Could it be cause of the old motherboard?

Sorry about the long post. Hope someone can help me out there.

Thank you in advance.

Nipin.

It does need to be a basic disk. Changing that in Disk Management will probably require a re-format, deleting the data on the drive. If you still have the original drive available, I'd recommend going to a basic disk and then cloning the drive again. Otherwise, I'd recommend cloning the SSD onto a blank drive, then reformatting, then cloning back to the SSD.

You probably have the computer setup to boot off Pata drives.

hmm.....what do you  MEAN by computer setup for pata drive??? How do I chk that??

What I did was disconnect all the other drives so there is no lesser complication....only my SSD was connected with the OS clone...I had seen on one of the Youtube videos that the new clone drive might update some drivers from the first time boot.

Do let me know how i can chk if the PC is setup for pata drive or not.

Thank you.

By default, most computers that have PATA and are old, have PATA as the boot drive.

Go into the bios and set the default boot drive type from PATA to SATA.

(I have done this before lots of time, I get photos if you want)
