Setting Up Network Printer - It Worked Before!

Go to solution Solved by Pommy192,

Does the driver look cool? Did you get it from the CD or did you get the latest version from their site?

I know when I've had some issues with HP printers in the past, I would try this really generic driver to see if it would work.

I have to manually install the drivers when I go to set it up anyway

I've plugged in my HP Photosmart C4280 into the USB WAP I've made out of an old BT Homehub 3.

I've managed to get it working in the past on the one computer, but now I can't print test pages.

No clue, windows found it via the IP address using the 'Add new printer' wizard

Attached some screens below if any settings I need to change.

  • 1 month later...

just out of curiosity, have you tried ticking the "USB001" to see if that worked.

is the printer IP address in the same IP range as your internal default gateway?

I will give that a go when I am back at home

check the router to see if the settings on there are correct

can you ping the printer?

It's an old router that has been reconfigured as a WAP.

I'll also give that a go when I get back home

Make sure the router hasn't handed it a different IP address - see if you can ping it or even go to the IP in your browser and see if the web interface comes up.  It will be an issue if the printer is set to DHCP and it recycles power- it could feasibly change IP's every time unless you are able to either set it static on the device or create a reservation for it on the router.

The printer is plugged into the old router with has been made into a wap

Dhcp is turned off on the WAP as well as the firewall.

The ip to my router is the standard 192.168.1.254

And the access point where the printer is plugged Into via USB is 192.168.1.175

Here is the guide I followed:
