so a guy gave me his old ddr2 gaming pc.
the specs are:
CPU: intel pentium D 950 3.42 Ghz
motherboard: gigabyte 965p-ds3(lga775)
RAM: ddr2 3.5 gb
graphics card: GeForce 7300 GT

im looking to replace all of the above. i would like to make it AMD since AMD is not as expensive.
i was thinking about the AMD FX-6300 for the cpu. i would get 8 gigs of ram. and probably a 280 or a r7 370 for the graphics card.  i dont know about the motherboard yet. what would be some recommendations for a good motherboard for less than 100$?

Don't go for the FX 6300, if you're gonna get an FX 6300 you might as well get an i3.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sc9dVn <----- I'd lean to something more like this. Spending the extra 20$ over the r7 370 and going with the 950 will show significant performance improvements.

I have a 960 and I play certain titles like GTA 5 at 4k with DSR, I just turn off AA and it's fine. I've actually never ran into any issues with VRAM before, GTA 5, Watch_Dogs, and Shadow Of Mordor all run perfectly fine at 1080p and max settings. Even with DSR it's fine.

An APU is a better choice,

Get an APU unless you need the extra cores.

The people who say get an i3, I disagree with.

I feel that a dual core w/ HyperThreading is not worth it.

The only reason I would get an i3 over an APU is because you can upgrade the i3 to an i5 or i7 (Or a xeon) later on.

The i5 4460 for only 20$ more performs much better. Intel's per core performance beats out multiple AMD cores.

No.

That GPU is average, and the extra $20 should buy you a 280 or 280x.

960 Averages higher framerates (in some games) than the 280, also the 280 draws much more power and outputs much more heat.

In "most" cases a R9 280 will preform better than a GTX 960.

The R9 280x is better than a 280, 960 or the 285 (380)

The R9 280 draws more power and is a hotter card as you said, but preforms better (in most cases)

i run a 6300 and a 280x and i have only had problems in gta 5 where the cpu bottleknecks the gpu but other than that its a fairly decent combo or if you can get a 8350 or 8320

I have an ASRock 970 Pro3 R 2.0

I think it is an Okay motherboard, but you will not OC much or at all because of the VRM.

BTW the USB 3.0 header is in a stupid spot at the back to the board near the IO shield
