WTFs a Capture Card?

If my perception of a capture card is correct, then I should be able to use the capture card to record video and allocate my graphics card solely for gaming... Is that correct?

a capture card is a device that captures footage before it goes on screen and either stores it in its own storage or is saved to a computer nearby

Since someone said it already ill give my definition. To capture the video being displayed on the screen. I have a Hauppauge HD PVR 2 but I ended up not using it so it was a waste of money. Unless you want to be a big hit YouTube/Internet star, I suggest you save your money.

My understanding of a capture card was that it takes the load off of CPU.

I did no research on it as i dont have fast enough connection to stream

SOME capture cards do, some don't.

Avermedia LGP for example, does, I have one, good for 720p/30 or 1080p/30

 

This was before shadowplay was a thing, as it pretty much works with all my games, I no longer use my capture device.
