2x IBM M1015, (LSI 9220-8i) they are roughly $100 on ebay. flash them to IT mode and your done.

I'm planning for a FreeNAS build that I want to be expandable up to 20-24 HDDs.

Yep, LSI is one of only good ways to go.

Solution
