Windows 8 pls...

I got Windows 8 installed on an Asus P5KPL-CM with 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, Core 2 Cuo at 1.87 GHz and 200 GB hard drive. And so far, its not going well...

 

Problem 1: I can't install DirectX (the Web Setup): It says that the error will be shown at DirectX log files shown at C:/Windows. but upon opening it, there's no log file relating to DirectX.

Problem 2: Antivirus. Since MSE is included in Windows 8 as Windows Defender, I didn't install any other antiviruses. But Nuqel.be persists on showing up as a virus even though I already removed it!

Problem 3: Game Compatibility. I have MAME32 (the arcade emulator) and it can't even play any games. It just leads me right back to the game selection menu. However, this works properly on windows 7 laptops that the family has.

 

Okay, so Problem 2 might just be a virus (but persistent) and Problem 3 is only happening because the program isn't compatible with W7... but Problem 1 is  truly mysterious. So, any solutions?

 

Edits: On problem 2: I might try out AVG later on.

What graphics card are you using? Do you have the latest driver updates for it?

Mame won't work without proper DirectX, so that's just a problem with getting video drivers installed.

 

Run dxdiag and see what errors you get.

 

As for the viruses, it looks like you just might need to do a refresh of your system.

 

Maybe you should invest in a $40 Radeon HD5450?

Just an Intel G33 Graphics, all latest drivers downloaded and loaded into the system.

 

 

Mame won't work without proper DirectX, so that's just a problem with getting video drivers installed.

2. Maybe I'll try AVG.

Have you tried a different OS? Can you get Windows 7 to run OK?

 

Other possibility is that the installation corrupted slightly and is not allowing you to install certain things. I had a major issue with Vista back when I had no other option and it was exactly the same issue as you where I just couldn't install DirectX. Reformatting is the only thing that fixed it.

 

Have you used Windows update to ensure the system is fully up-to-date? Also, try downloading and installing .Net 4.0 update from Microsoft. Random bug I get with Windows every re-install that stops .net stuff working.

I gave up on this and installed W7 on my machine...now it works fine...
