I bought something from ebay and paid via paypal. I checked the transaction details on paypal and I found this:

Payment To:   xxx    (The recipient of this payment is Unverified) Seller's ID:   xxx Seller's Email:   xxx

*xxx I just put xxx instead of real ones.

So I sent money to unverified paypal account? whats that?

Finishing up my build...

It just means it's has some restrictions - not necessarily that the person is not legit. I would wait a couple days for your goods to be sent / received, and if you don't get anything, then dispute it with Paypal.

Unverified means that they put a card on however, they didn't verify it through their bank meaning, the bank doesn't really have anything to do with it. That person can then withdraw that money, close the account and your money is gone. (Worst case scenario)

You know when you sign up to things, you get an E-mail to verify it, well basically he needs to do that. I cannot see any benefits of doing this from the perspective of a seller, other than there's no way of anyone contacting him. It would be naive to assume that this person forgot to verify.

You don't 'forget' to verify on paypal.

Then maybe you have nothing to worry about, but it's just a little risky.

Verification on Paypal is not an email confirmation or anything like that. An unverified account on Paypal just doesn't have a bank account connected to it- which is pretty smart all things considered.

Open a dispute with Paypal aswell - just to cover your bases in case they don't issue a refund.

Paypal likes to rock the "guilty until proven innocent" model in regards to how retailers are treated when customers dispute payments.

Just because they are not verified, doesnt mean its a scam, my paypal account isnt verified in the sense that i dont have a bank account associated with it, but my address and personal info IS verified (thats what really matters). It just means they dont have their bank account associated with their paypal account. I do that for safety reasons, if i need money in my paypal account, i just get a green dot card from CVS/Walgreens and load it like that. I dont trust paypal to keep my banking info safe, they have been hacked to many times, along with Ebay.
