I've been looking at a lot of SSDs and I've started paying attention to the performance based on the queue depth of the benchmarks run on them. My question is, what typical queue depths would one see in traditional workloads and in more heavy workloads? I found very little in my searches.

 

By "traditional", I mean things like the OS running, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, opening music/video files, etc.

 

By "heavy" I mean stuff like opening and using large applications like games, engineering software like Solidworks and Matlab, and other heavy applications like Adobe products and rendering software.

 

It seems useful to tailor your storage choice to what you'll most often be doing with it, since at low queue depths most SSDs are very similar (source).

 

I found a Tom's Hardware article outlining queue depth in some applications, but they're not really the applications I had in mind (although Civilization V apparently reaches a queue depth of 128 during game loads)
