could i not just buy a copy of windows 7 or 8.1 then upgrade to 10 for free rather than just buying win 10 outright?

 

how long does the free upgrade last? any benefits or problems via this method?

Idk, haven't bothered to ask.  Just make sure that the seller has good reviews in the comments section before buying from the seller.

Generally because they come from semi-shady sources or because someone is selling their MSDN keys (which is against Microsoft's ToS.)
