Huge laptop problems need help

My sister has this laptop only had it for like 3 months. The hdd usage is 100% when looking it up in the task manager and now recently she can not open the chrome browser but she can open edge but not search anything. This has literally ruined the laptop any help will be appreaciated thanks alot

Try a factory reset or try deleting things? Make sure to back up first.

I would run a hard drive diagnostic like Seatools. If that passes try disabling everything in the startup and restarting it, and see if that changes anything. Also did Windows 10 just get installed on it? I had an issue on a laptop where the hard drive was being hit very heavily initially to index all the search items.

I have had windows 10 installed on it for more than 3 weeks now and its system and antimalware service executable that are taking all the hdd up and yes i have tried turning it on and off thats when it is slow for like 1-2 minutes gonna try seatools etc tomorrow its 1 am in sweden

funnily enough, my system process and AVG take up a lot of disk time at launch too. It's normal. Start it up, leave it a while and tell her to hibernate it, not shut it down, but to restart it once a week.

yeah I have an ssd on my rig to so didnt even know this problem existed but I guess thats what I have to tell her but do you have an answer for the problem where chrome wont open and edge wont let her search

does it happen just in the period of HDD usage or always? if it's just when the HDD is busy it's because there is a system bottleneck and the HDD cannot spit data out fast enough. i have noticed that certain things load when this is happeing on my laptop, like task manager, but others will not, like any browsers or CCleaner

No it never works she just told me

Microsoft Edge will open but not search and chrome wont open at all no error codes nothing just nothing happens

thats the thing i cant download it since no browser works (edge,chrome)

yep, my laptop suffers from it, my girlfriend's laptop does to, my parent's laptop and PC, my grandad's laptop and so on. My PC would, but the SSD seems to get around that problem

It's defragmentation/AV scanning usually for me - System or Symantec using the disk

if this persists, save all her files and make the laptop do a factory reset. you'll probably end up having to delete a whole load of bloadware though, so be warned

yeah it works but the bloatware is crazy when she got the laptop there was "aton" of bloatware took me like 1 hour to delete it cuz the thing was pretty slow with only 1 hdd

hmph.. try internet explorer, if that doesn't work then factory reset is probably the best option

How do i change the def search engine to to google on explorer

as in the search bar or the homepage? the homepage is in options but other than that I don't know, I avoid explorer like the plague, the first thing I install on a system is firefox
