My brother's PC doesn't allow him to use all 8 GB of RAM even though he has 64-Bit windows. He's tried Windows 10 and 7. Here are his specs

CPU: FX 8320 at stock
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengance 1600MHz

GPU(s): GTX 960 from EVGA and a secondary GPU of a 750 TI from EVGA

Any ideas?

Single stick of RAM or dual? if dual try RMA or it might be a faulty dimm, try a different dimm on the board

Dual, and as far as i know, he's not capable of RMA. we also don't have another DDR3 capable board around.

screenshots pls, CPUZ and TM, try moving them to different slots, a slot may be damaged, but if 8192 is the magic number in CPUZ and not Task Manager, it's another issue

he's trying different things out and can't get CPUZ at the moment. i'll let him know you suggested this

ok put in one dimm then check you should be posting instantly and you should be looking in the bios for installed memory capacity if it is

4 gb youre fine then do it with the other dimm again 4gb you should be seeing then clear cmos and then install both dimmS in right color coated slots if it isnt still working you should have your system reserved it

He says (but hasn't shown me, so he's probably to lazy to do it) the motherboard won't post with 1 stick in, but it the bios sees all 8 GBs when both sticks are in

Here are some possible fixes:

1:Swap slots

2.Try single channel(or dual if are already running single)

3.try one stick at a time(boot to windows with one stick then shutdown and put the other)

4.Clear bios settings

Read above for RAM attempts

he's already tried clear cmos.
