I'm in a bit of a fiasco with my brand new Asus ROG Swift PG278Q monitor. It looks great, no dead pixels or anything of the sort. DP works fine (I used Dual-Link DVI on my past VG248QE, which is 1080p 144Hz capable).

However, I cannot seem to enable Gsync. I know I can, I have it set to enabled in 'Set up Gsync' section of the control panel. However, I see no option to override Vsync with Gsync, which is apparently the main way of enabling it in games. Under 'Vertical Sync' in the 3D Global Settings, the drop down includes options for 'Global', 'On', and 'Off', but not 'Gsync' as I'm aware it should.

I'm running on a 980 Ti with the latest 355.60 driver. What gives!!!??

It sounds right to me. Your monitor technology should be set to G-Sync and then you can set VSync to on or off. GSync doesn't do anything when you're above your monitor's refresh rate, that's VSync's job.

EDIT: I'm assuming you're going by what it used to be like with the old drivers. Before, you had the option of GSync being on "instead" of Vsync, but all that did was enable GSync and VSync together. They updated it so you can use GSync and not have VSync enabled, so you're not capped at your monitor's refresh rate. This change can allow you to disable VSync if it's causing problems in games, while keeping the functions of GSync.

Oh. Yeah, I saw this older video that showed it like that.

Sorry for getting confused like that. I just needed to know.

Gsync doesn't cap framerate, so I can run Vsync with it without one or the other overriding each other, meaning I will get the capped fps without tearing or stuttering with Gsync being used alongside it?

Yes.

A lot of people mistake GSync being a replacement of VSync, which their first implementation of activating it didn't help. GSync works while you're below your monitor's maximum refresh rate, syncing the monitor to the GPU. VSync works when above the monitor's refresh rate, essentially capping the FPS to make sure you're not getting double/half frames that cause tearing.

They can be used independently, so having GSync without VSync will sync the monitor and GPU when below the monitor's maximum refresh rate, then will disable when you go over it. The FPS will not be capped in that situation, and screen tearing may occur.
