HyperX Clouds sound really weird?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

You should use the front port since it has the amp. Uninstall/reinstall/update audio drivers, make sure your bios is up to date (very important). Turn off any and all software effects. Disable EQ for now.  Make sure that if you have an audio control center software, that it is set to "headphone" mode.

Hello. I recently got a pair of HyperX Clouds. My motherboard is an ASUS Maximus VII Formula. I'm not sure whether or not to plug in the headphones to the rear motherboard ports or the front panel audio connectors. Supposedly, the Maximus VII Formula has an amp in the front and detects impedance (which it does), but I heard that the quality in front panels are usually not that great so I just use the ones in the back of the motherboard.

My main question is why is the sound quality so weird? I upgraded from the Turtle Beach X12s and I really love the fit and everything. Problem is, without any equalizer settings, virtual sound and bass boost through the motherboard's on-board software (the Realtek software with the fancy ASUS stuff in black and red), the quality of the sound is just really dull and low volume. Through the front panel, it gets loud because of the amp impedance obviously, but not in the back. I literally have to set the equalizer settings to around +2db to +4db on most of the frequencies. The higher frequencies hurt my ears though when turned up even slightly.

I really want to crank the headphones to max volume and just blare music with some kickass sound quality but everything sounds really weird in these. Bass sometimes masks/screws up songs (like in Hood Gone Love It, when the beat first kicks in, the entire song just fades out with the bass most prominent).

Any ideas?

Did everything you mentioned and all seems to be working swell now :). Thank you so much!
