I have a weird taskbar glitch on my pc where either the taskbar is mis-colored and/or displays ghost icons from the notification area (screenshots below).

This occurs only when using the aero desktop theme and not the basic or classic themes. The glitch only appears in my user account and not in the test account I made.

So basically any ideas on fixing this short of making a new user account and transferring everything. PC is Windows 7 Pro

Does this happen normally like after a reboot or logout?

I would try restarting Windows Explorer.

Also try customizing your task bar and adding/removing icons and see if that fixes the problem.

Does this also happen, when you do a clean boot?

It still happens when I do a clean boot.

It only occurs for my user account and not the other user accounts on the computer which makes me think the account could be corrupted

That is very possible.

I might also try disabling everything in startup and see if it is a program that is causing this glitch.

Windows + R > msconfig > Startup > Disable All

You don't have to restart, just log off and log back in after you save those settings.

I've tried disabling startup items and non-microsoft services with msconfig, but I still get the glitch appearing. It only occurs only on my user and not others on the PC. And only for the aero desktop theme and not the basic or classic ones.

That makes me think it might be a problem with dwm.exe.  Try restarting that process.

Or, if it's that annoying to you, I would create a different user and migrate your data to that one.
