Which Alternative?

Go to solution Solved by Samppa221,

It would future proof in a way that for more performance in the future you could just swap out the card and the cpu would be cool with it.

Hey There! (if you reply on this thread, please quote my post so I get notified)

I'm making a build which is going to be for multi tasking (right now I'm with 15 chrome tabs open, calculator, media center, skype, file explorer, word, paint.net and i just closed my video editor about 5 minutes ago) and also for gaming (TF2, Terraria, GTA V, Minecraft, Dota2, Blockade2 and Unturned). My current build is really not holding up to what I just listed. It has an i7 4500u with a gt 740m.

Now, I've created 2 alternative builds for everything I just listed. Price is irrelevant. I'll handle it. Which of the following builds will follow up to my standard, with heavy multi tasking (including video editing, so don't even talk about i5's :P) and gaming (still, no i5 ples). One build has an advantage, one doesn't. The advantage is a video editor. I currently use one that only supports 30fps videos. So this upgrade that supports 60fps but stick in your mids when you comment please. (also) I DO NOT GAME AT 4K, NOT EVEN 1080P. MY MONITORS ARE 900P. SO THE 128BIT BUS ON THE GTX 960 WON'T BOTHER ME AT ALL. SO WHEN COMPARING THE 2 GPUs, DON'T BRING IN THE MEMORY BUS.

Build 1:

Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K – 4.0GHz, (planned 4.3GHz Overclock)

Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 3

Case: NZXT Phantom 410 mid Tower

Graphics Card: MSI GTX 960 Twin Frozr V 2GB GDDR5 128Bit OC Gaming

CPU Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212X

Case Cooling: Stock Case Fans

Power Supply: Antec High Current Pro 620W 80+ BRONZE

RAM: 12GB (1x8 + 1x4) Dual Channel DDR3 Kingston Hyper X Savage 1600MHz

Storage1: Samsung 850 Evo 120GB

Storage2: Western Digital Blue 7200RPM 1TB

Storage3: Western Digital Blue 7200RPM 1TB

Advantage Point: Cyberlink Power Director 13 Ultra

Build 2:

Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 – 3.6GHz

Motherboard: MSI Z97 Guard Pro

Case: NZXT Phantom 410 mid Tower

Graphics Card: MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V 3.5GB GDDR5 128Bit OC Gaming

CPU Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212X

Case Cooling: Stock Case Fans

Power Supply: Antec High Current Pro 620W 80+ BRONZE

RAM: 8GB (2x4) Dual Channel DDR3 Kingston Hyper X Savage 1600MHz

Storage1: Samsung 850 Evo 120GB

Storage2: Western Digital 7200RPM 2TB

So which build would be better for me? The 1st one with the editor and more RAM but budget gpu? Or the second one with buckled mobo, less RAM and no editor (and also different hdd config) BUT a better gpu.

I'm tryna make this future proof. It needs to last at least 2/3 years.

EDIT: Please don't ask why it's not 1080p.

Just don't really feel like it. Can't find any real differences between it and 4gen cpu's

On the second build there is really no need for an Z97 mobo. But are you going to overclock there is the big question.

I don't really have to OC. The reason why there's a 4.3 OC on the first build is because it's tryna make up for the 960. And also on the second build, the reason there's a guard ro, is that there is a b85-g43 offer, but it doesn't have the guard pro benefits like the guard pro and gaming 3 have

Where is the 960 they both seem to have 970's
