Hi, sorry if i have bad punctuation its not really my strong suit.

I am currently thinking about building a new gaming rig, for no real reason other than i want fancy settings like hair works at 60 fps on an ultra wide 1080p monitor with g-sync (the monitor is to be determined yet)

This is the sort of specs i was thinking of using: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/nkc7jX

Processor probably overclocked to a certain extent as well, any recommendations are welcome on specific parts.

Let me know what you think :D, thanks Harry.

i7 4790k 4.5 Ghz, XFX DD R9 290 until the Fury x2 release, 16 Gb HyperX fury, 850w G2, 128 Gb M.2 850 EVO, 250 Gb SATA 850 EVO, 2 Tb SSHD, Razer H440

Dont go for SLI of GTX 970, go for GTX 980 Ti or CF of R9 390. If you go for CF, then get some 850W PSU. Freesync is cheaper too.

Yes, the problem is the vram of the GTX 970(especially with SLI and Triple SLI), and also that the R9 390 is usually faster, and have some extra memory buffer, I dont think that 8GB will be usefull on the CF of R9 390, but, better more than less.

Okay i made a few adjustments what's everyone think of this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qcY7jX

Looks really nice, I would just put some small SSD for the OS and small softwares, like 120GB.

i know what you mean but it has an SSHD, which puts cache in a small 64 MB SSD after a little while it will boot a few seconds slower than an SSD and games will boot the same eventually. :)

be careful who you take advice from on these forums. i would just get a single gtx 980 for the amount you're going to pay for x2 390's. some games can't even utilize crossfire or sli. two 390's is a huge power draw. it's unnecessary. i've never seen anyone get two 390's before...

Oh and it has a 2 Tb normal HDD as well so its almost like having a 2 Tb SSD but something like 2 seconds slower, was supposed to say this when i said that ^ lol :)

SSHD is not nearly as fast as a SSD can be, I would go for HDD + separated SSD, will not change that much the price. Maybe 40 dollars more.

GTX 980 is pretty bad for the price performance rightnow, if he wants single, he should get 980 Ti, and almost every demanding game rightnow support CF or SLI, the problem rightnow just really starts with 3-4 way.

Well a 390 Crossfire would probably be around the same if not faster than a 980 so id have to go for a 980 Ti which is actually cheaper, good point,  okay i'll go with a 980 ti even then if i need more power later on i can put another 980 ti in the system. Great recommendation :D

what is your budget? do you need peripherals?

Erm around 1500 really and i don't need peripherals i have a razer keyboard and the mouse is  on its way now.

SSHD is not nearly as fast as a SSD can be, I would go for HDD + separated SSD, will not change that much the price. Maybe 40 dollars more.

i'll look into although i think i'll stick with an SSHD because even linus tested it and it was only a few seconds slower after booting 3 times.

GTX 980 Ti is nice, you should go for it, the R9 390 CF should perfermon better on most games, but the GTX 980 Ti will offer better support on some rare games that handle bad CF.

I dont know where do you live, but generally they are at the same price (CF R9 390 and GTX 980 Ti).

Oh i meant an 1500 GBP and the system with a 980 TI with an i7 4790k adds up to around 1400 so i will get a slight edge over the i5 with the i7.

In the uk a single 390 costs around 260 so a 2 way CF would cost around 510 and a 980 ti is around 550 so for an extra 40 i get better support less CF problems with older games etc, and i have the option to add another later down the line so in my eyes a single 980 ti seems like a better option, i didnt go with it before because i assumed it was 700 in the uk but its only 550. so yea lol
