Storing the last 5/10/15/whatever minutes of gameplay/desktop footage for recording. 

Haha i mean the 5gb ram usage.

Yeah. I'm assuming it's storing the temporary footage in RAM (as it's fast, so your drive isn't going to slow it down), so it can be saved to your drive when you want. Try adjusting the time and resolution of the ShadowPlay footage and see if the RAM usage goes down.

But i can specify the location of the temp files and they are on my c drive.

Interesting. Maybe it's just that it's sitting in RAM while it writes to the C drive. If you adjust the settings for ShadowPlay and it changes the RAM usage, then it's definitely storing it in there, even if it's just a buffer.

But that ram usage was that when i didn't have a game open.
