Hi Guys,

This is my first official post on here and didn't know which category this would fall into, seen as it will be new to me I guess it's kind of  planning.

Anyway I'm looking at buying a iMac 5K but debating whether or not they will be releasing a new updated version in September (current model has m295x)

would it be worth waiting and see if they update the model too a m390x or would there be no difference if they did?

Before you guys go all "oh Apple fanboy here", "Apple sucks". I'm just asking whether it would be worth the wait or just to get the current one.

Thanks.

The new 300-series variant is worth waiting for at this time. The price of the newer model is likely to remain the same, but likely include a Skylake processor, DDR4, and a 300-series card with an m2 Gen3 x4 option. Just sit tight. September is only a few weeks away.

Thanks for the comment, I've looked around but can't find any information on a new model been released. I was under the impression that Skylake processors weren't much of an upgrade, am I wrong on this?

it wasnt much of an upgrade if you already had the previous gen, but if it was a new build then skylake would make sense.

may i ask why wont you go for a computer instead? something like x99.

I've always wanted an Apple machine. Yes that may make me a "Fanboy" if you want to call me that but I actually understand the technical stuff. Sorry if that doesn't answer you question fully as I'm fully aware that I could get a better machine for half the price..

You are correct. Skylake isn't much of an upgrade if you already own a Haswell based processor (which is the CPU in the current Apple models). I just think there's more to look forward to than just a GPU upgrade with the 2015/2016 iMac refresh.

You won't find any information just yet on new models. Usually Apple has a conference where they release details, availability, and price. Sometimes it's a silent release because there's nothing fancy to showcase. But you can bet Apple will release a refreshed line before the holidays.

Unless you have an urgent need, my recommendation is to hold out a little longer. Heck, you might even be able to get a 60Hz 5k display this time around... but I wouldn't get your hopes up for that one.

Yeah I watch the conferences throughout the year. The only reason why I'm thinking they're gonna do a refresh is cause they refreshed the 15" Macbook Pro. I don't have urgent need for a iMac just if there is no reason to hold for something that isn't really worth waiting for I'll get the current model.
