Hello

My system turns off after about 1 hour if I am not using it.

This morning when I went to turn on the pc, it would not come on.  I turned the switch on the psu off and back on  and there was not any power going to the motherboard. I tried it a few more times and nothing.

I unplugged the psu and plugged it back in, nothing.  I checked the cables on the psu and the mother board.  Everything was fine, the cables were plugged in correctly.

I unplugged the psu again and left it unplugged for a few mins.  I plugged in the psu again and switched the psu's power switch on and off again.

This time the motherboard had power and I was able to start up the pc as normal.

After the pc was on, I had a message that said Windows update was finished installing.

Could my psu be going bad?  Or could the Windows update have caused a problem?

I have a good psu, the  Silver Stone SST-ST75F-GS  750watt Strider Gold Series.   I am using a i7 4790K with a MSI Gaming 7 motherboard.

I built the computer two months ago and I haven't had any problems before today.

Put paperclip in a black cable and green cable on the 24 pin. Switch on PSU, does it work? Does it stay on for a long time?

Hard for me to do, I have a psu with fully modular cable system.  All of my cables are black so I don't know which one on the end of the psu connector is green or black.

Google the pin-out of the PSU or check the manual. You want to find a ground and the 'PSU  on'. DO NOT DO IT IF YOU'RE NOT SURE. YOU WILL KILL PSU (or yourself, but that doesn't matter :P )
