Today my start menu search button stopped working properly. It no longer searches any of my programs or files. It only will give me internet and windows store results. The only thing I've done is freed up disk space by cleaning up my old Windows 7 install. I went to do a system restore from my external drive but the windows 7 backup and restore tool doesn't seem to be working either. Does anyone have any insight on this?

When you type anything into the search box, is there a button at the bottom (with a Windows logo) that says "My Stuff"? That'll force it to just search your local files.

If anything it may just need to index your files before search will work fully. Normally it shows a message at the top of the search box if that's the case.

That did allow me to see my files, but it's weird because it was working perfectly even as of this morning. Unless there was an update that changed it somehow. I thought I might have screwed something up somehow by deleting my windows.old folder

**Edit: searching for things such as settings still doesn't work however

I have had the same issue, its an unfortunate bug with Windows 10. I've been skimming the internet for a fix but with no success other than more people with the same issue. I've gone to the measure of pinning important and commonly used things to my start menu.

If it's not just me, that's a good thing I guess. Seems like they've made it hard to find any of the settings without that now. That, or maybe I just don't know my way around the OS as well yet. Thank you guys for your input.
