I've set up a VPN on my laptop in order for me to connect to my home network with the intention of streaming content off of my home server while I'm away. So far, all of my attempts to stream video have failed due to the video never opening when I click on them -- they seem to load indefinitely (...well, for at least three minutes since I haven't waited longer then that -- since at that point if it takes that long to open then it will just stutter constantly).

I have at least 50/50Mbps in both locations -- which should be enough to stream...no? (I noticed that when I run a speedtest on my current network (not home) I get 70/70, and when I connect to the VPN I'm getting 13/8Mbps). I tried to stream a 1.1GB 45 minute video -- which should equate to 3Mbps of video (?) -- which never* starts streaming. So I started to wonder, is it a bandwidth limitation that's preventing me from successfully streaming, or is it a latency issue?

So is there anything I can/should do that may help alleviate my problems?

maybe vpn blocking?

I'm able to connect to and use the VPN, so I guess their could be a bandwidth cap on VPN, but I'm relatively confident in that one of the networks I tried connecting from didn't have any kind of QOS running.
