Hey, i need some advice on this build that i'm making:

CPU: I5 4690K

MotherBoard: ASUS Z87-PRO ATX LGA1150 Z87 DDR3 3PCI-E16 4PCI-E1 CROSSFIREX/SLI SATA3 USB3.0 DVI HDMI Motherboard

RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Memory Black 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL10 Dual Channel Memory Kit

GPU: Powercolor Radeon R9 280X OC 1030MHZ 3G 6.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card

I'm not concerned about anything else but i want to really know if this build is good. I can not fit a fx 970 in my build to to budget constraints.

Also, this motherboard is $120 on a big sale, i see it is good for overclocking but is it a good pair with the i5 4690k and the GPU?

Thanks for your time!

Yeah I'd say that's good as well. Usually people now days go with an i5 or an i7 so the good stuff is up to date, good stuff. Graphics card wise I don't really know AMD so I can't really help there. 1600 mhz memory should do, but if you want to upgrade for speed in the future and things like that 1600 mhz is kind of borderline. Still good though, I'm puting that speed for my future build as well, just something to keep in mind. I take it you'll be gaming then - gaming rig based or something higher on the scale?

I just ordered the exact same components, except for the graphics card.  :P

I assume you're also from Canada, given that I purchased the motherboard for $120 as well.

Obviously, I think it's a great build. I can't speak for the graphics card because I'm personally going with a Sapphire R9 390 Nitro and haven't done any research on the 280X. But I understand your budget is slightly more limited.

The motherboard will pair well with the 4690K. I've been told that it's probably shipping with an updated BIOS by now to support Haswell Refresh out of the box. Even if you get one with an older BIOS you can use Asus' USB BIOS Flashback feature to update the BIOS without a CPU or even RAM installed--you just need a power supply and USB stick. Feature-wise, I like the 4-way optimization that can automatically overclock the CPU if you're a novice like me. It also has WiFi, Bluetooth, ALC1150 audio codec, Intel NIC, and SLI support which really sold me on it for the price.

The GPU will be fine with the motherboard as it has the necessary PCIe slots.

DO NOT EVER BUY KINGSTON HYPERX FURY BLACK!!

I did it and I have to upgrade forom 16GB to 32 allmost imidiately because kingston hyperx furi WHITE looks absolutely kick-ass, awesome and sexy.
But the memory itself is really great. I have it overclocked to aprox 2000Mhz and i probably can go far, but I didn´t touched voltage, just left it on default.

And for the GPU, didnt you thought about new r9 380s instead? They run cooler, perform a bit better and in my country the price is almost the same.
And remember, that when you go for AMD GPU you need to think about cooling at least a bit. I always used AMD, but you need good case with good airflow. Then it will be ok even for overclocking.

Lol when I first read this I thought "what the hell could possibly be wrong with this RAM?". So you just prefer the white over black?

The white one is the best looking RAM i ever saw...

To each his own I suppose. I prefer the understated elegance of the Fury Black.  :)
