Okey, I want to upgrade my current rig.

Current rig:

cpu: i5 3470

ram: 8gb 1333

GTX 650 2gb

So i want to upgrade, but some people say it's not worth it if you have a 3rd gen cpu or above. Since i can't fit long gpus i can't upgrade. While i'm at i thought it would be a great idea to update the rest of the system aswell. But i can't decide on Z97 or Z170.

Pros with Z170:

DDR4

New CPUS

More Connectivity

Cons with Z170:

More expensive..

Pros with Z97:

Cheaper than the Z170 platform atm

Cons with Z97:

Not as much connectivity.

No DDR4 support.

Not as "Future proof"

Budget: 1200€/$1200 (cuz prices in sweden are fked up)

I like the Fractal R4 and R5 case.

A minimum of 8gb ram.

I5 or better.

Some Mobo... xD

I have a SSD, HDD, and PSU already.

Thanks in advice :)

Diffence is 20€ but ddr4 is waaay more expensive than ddr3 :/

But the total difference, of DDR4 + mobo + CPU + cooler ( keep this in mind )

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

DDR4 same price as DDR3. Mobo a bit over 100€.   i5 6600k 250€.  Coolers are the same

If the mobo is only ~10€ more expensive, DDR4 ~20€ and cpu ~20 more than I would go skylake, but if that money compromises your gpu upgrade then go Z97

Why can't you fit long gpu's ? I would upgrade that first to let prices for cpu's settle a bit

Wow,

What are the specs ?

You might need a new psu before the cpu / mobo replacement, as some psu's don't come with standard voltages

I have a cx 600m atm.. don't think i need to upgrade that. I listed my specs above ^

Current rig:cpu: i5 3470ram: 8gb 1333GTX 650 2gb

Wasn't sure about the psu :P

I would upgrade gpu first, something like a R9 390,

upgrading the cpu will net you 0% performance gains with that GPU, and your cpu is still "ok" ( not great, it will bottleneck a bit, but it's fine )

With 1200€ for a cpu and gpu you should be able to get some nice things, could you link your site so I can recommend the upgrades based on prices ?

Just use pcpartpicker. I'll buy all parts at a local store anyways

The only thing I'm hesitating on is going Z97 to keep the DDR3, it saves a lot :o

Based on where I am :

You have the choice between a Z97 + i7 +gpu + case or Z170 + i5 + gpu + case

The thing is... i don't think i can save the RAM becuase it is some HP BS...

I think i'm going with the Z170 platform becuase I don't really need an i7 and i don't like buying "old" stuff

Ok,

What are you going to do with the leftover hardware ?

Here is what I would get :

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/8GB--2x-4096MB--HyperX-Fury-schwarz-DDR4-2666MHZ-NON-ECC-CL-15_1010619.html

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Asus-Z170-A-Intel-Z170-So-1151-Dual-Channel-DDR4-ATX-Retail_1009410.html

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Phanteks-Enthoo-Pro-mit-Sichtfenster-Midi-Tower-ohne-Netzteil-weiss_976537.html

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-4x-3-50GHz-So-1151-WOF_1010019.html

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Phanteks-PH-TC14PE-BK-Tower-Kuehler_798829.html  ( you can always take a watercooler )

Now this is ~650€, that leaves you with some money for the gpu / others.

For the gpu, what would be your preference ? IMO I would get a R9 390 and save the money so when HBM2 comes you can buy a tasty GPU

R9 390 is ~340€

R9 fury is 600€

GTX 980 ti is ~700€
