Main usage is for school, and both laptops seem to hold their own benefits but I'm stuck in choosing

Lighter = better for school usage. My vote would go for the xps 13. 

 

However, the rMBP has more performance due to its Iris graphics and 28W processor vs 15W on the XPS 13.

I would XPS 13 as it's lighter, but what happened to the Y580?

Weight doesn't really matter considering my school doesn't give us much to carry in our backpacks anyways

That thing is a freaking brick and my mom doesn't want me to take a gaming capable laptop to school. Also it's super unreliable

Oh, I was thinking it would be for college. However, I think you'd appreciate the smaller weight of the xps.

I would say rMBP since I feel like OSX offers a more comfortable and smooth work experience in school, I personally use OSX for school and would never think twice about using Windows for school.

If you ask here the response will always most certainly be windows, if you ask on Macrumors it'll be a Macbook. Go to a best buy and test them out, I own a Macbook although expensive it serves its purpose, I use it as my daily driver with my 4k monitor and for school.
