Update 8 aug: I was able to reinstall the comp in it's case & install W10. Everything seems to work fine! Thanks!

Hello,

My previous computer is to be sold (if fixed) to a friend. First bought in a general store. I removed it's hard drive about a year ago for data disk in my rig.

Yesterday I cleaned out the parts and tried to boot it on my improvised test bench. (no HDD or SSD connected at this time)

The motherboard and Bios boot up but it doesn't boot further than that when I attach my SSD Samsung 850 evo from my main rig.

it just sits on this screen:

Specs:

- Intel Core i7 2nd gen.

- 8 gig ram ddr3

- Nvidia Geforce gt(x) something

- 450 watt PSU

(sorry i really don't remember it since I havn't used it for over 2 years)

Steps performed:

- Checked Motherboard by removing ram (continues beep)

- Checked connection to monitor; now connected through HDMI to GPU. I don't have a VGA cable at the moment for onboard connection.

- All fans spin & seem to work fine.

- Beeps once on boot & motherboard shows up, then goes into the black screen from above & sits there.

- I did go into the settings to boot from SSD first rather than CD/DVD, still same black result.

I'll add more pictures to view. Be kind since it's my first 'to the bone' hardware experiences and very much welcome suggestions if you see anything crazy!

If anyone has any suggestions, I thank you in advance!

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that step from Valkyrie. I'll add it to the original post. xnoobftw, i'll try your suggestion first chance I get thanks. I'll look up how to do that!

if you need to do it and can't find a header to short the CMOS with, take the BIOS battery out and leave it for half an hour, give the power button a few presses with the PSU unplugged, it'll basically clear the volatile CMOS memory after a while and you can start again with the CMOS.

LOL no need for that.

Just take whatever metallic(i suggest your screw driver) and just connect the 2 pins that the "header" fits in and just hold it there for like 5 seconds

ok guys, the clear CMOS didn't work... Actually I just inserted a bootable USB W8 and the installer popped up.

I ordered a HDD to arrive tomorrow to see if the installing actually works. But I assume it'll be ok now!

Still no idea why it wouldn't boot my SSD which has W8.1 installed on it (does come from my main rig)

thank you!!
