USB Type-C is it secure?

Go to solution Solved by Grrizz,

The power lines are different than the data lines so even with a charger/hub combo you couldn't get data in through the power socket you would have to plug a data connection to the hub just as you would for any type of USB. You would need a power line network to USB adapter to get data through a power point which would be no more or less vulnerable than any power line network adapter.

Could someone hack me, I have the new Mac Book. The Mac Book pro uses the power port to multipule things such as data. What is preventing anyone from connecting to my computer via the power port?

If someone has access to it physically, you have other problems. So the answer to your question is... Nothing!

Isn't that basically the same thing as someone plugging in a regular USB drive into a regular USB port?

I mean via power cable, lets say i go to starbucks and charge my new macbook. What is limiting someone from using the power adapter to trabsfer data

Power adapter (brick thing) stops all that

The charging plug only has 2 connectors: positive and negative. A powerline attack would only be possible if the could get access to the part of the cable from the power brick to the plug and even then it takes ALOT of time to set up something that can actually damage your macbook. I'd be more worried about someone just stealing it and running away

I don't own a Mac Book, it seemed easier to ask the question that way. So there is still the chance when using lets say charger/hub combo even if they make those.

We're talking advanced electronics here and a powerline attack that's actually meaningful requires some bulky tools. There's a higher chance of lightning striking you in the starbucks while on the macbook than NOT noticing someone launching a powerline attack in front of you, in a public place.
