Posted August 3, 2013 Hello, I'm just looking for everyones opinion on this. Should I go with a 690 or 780 for just 1080p single monitor gaming? I can get them for about the same price, the 690 is slightly more expensive though. Or should I just wait for amd's new cards later this year? What do you guys think is my best choice? I won't sli any of the cards as when I'll have money for that there will be a lot better cards Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/42397-780-vs-690-or-wait/ Share on other sites
 Posted August 3, 2013 the 690 is a powerhouse for single screen 1080p gaming as i had one for many months and loved it however if you dont wanna have to deal with sli profiles and whatnot the single gpu 780 is a better choice Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/42397-780-vs-690-or-wait/#findComment-551789 Share on other sites
 Posted August 3, 2013 Both are already pretty overkill for 1080p, the 690 performs better, can you maybe go 770 sli? That would be the best performance for the price range. Posted August 3, 2013 7990. AMD's new beta driver is better then before in terms of CrossfireX performance, but Nvidia has had solutions at a hardware level for generations. Also, the 7990 has issues with heat when in a closed case environment. Posted August 3, 2013 Author Well I've been looking through here, as someone mentioned dual 770's and I think that'd actually be a good choice as I won't upgrade till I have to just completely redo my computer. I might wait and see for how amd's new cards will perform but I'd guess about the same as what is already out. So I might just go for dual 770's. And for a psu for that a 850w should be enough right? Unless you're running X79, your PCIe slots are now filled, whereas a 690 or 780 would leave an open slot for expansion. Posted August 3, 2013 7990. Theres always one ;) Myself I'd go for the 780, the extra cash for the 690 doesn't do much for me. And SLI! I'm the one who overclocks.
