Display Resolution vs Recording Resolution

If I have a 1440P monitor, and I get a capture card that only records in 1080P, what happens to the footage? Can it not record? Does it automatically downscale?

why not just record with software? 

 

i would think so downscale.

if im right the recorder atomatically downscales

If you're formally an engineer, avoid responsibility. That's what senior engineers get paid for.
