Cant activate Win10

So i installed win10 fresh and now i want to activate it with my 8.1 key... well

that doesnt work -> error code: 0xC004F050

So if someone knows the soloution, please tell me ._.

run command prompt as an admin and type "slmgr.vbs /ato"

 

thats only works if you clean installed on a computer that had windows 8.1

if not then you need to install windows 8.1 first and then upgrade

The official response from Microsoft would be that you have to do an "upgrade" install of windows 10 first. Then once you do the "upgrade" install and windows is up to date your W10 key be bound to your motherboard or your microsoft account which will make it possible for you to do a clean windows 10 install.

omfg. I couldnt get that upgrade thing to work. thats the reason why i did a fresh install.. please god, let there be another activation way

You can't activate it with a w8 key. You need to upgrade your w8 installation to w10. And then you can clean install a w10 and get it activated. It doesn't activate via the w8 key, it's activated via a w10 install ID - not a key. Meaning when you install w10 you just skip entering the key, and it'll be activated afterwards via that ID.

 

Edit: Atleast it legit activated.

As others pointed out you have to upgrade first, thankfully the reinstall of Win8.1 should be relatively painless, you can download the ISO for it from Microsoft, also the installation of Win8.1 goes quicker than Windows 10 in my experience.

Ok did that. I think the reason why it didnt work was the bios. there was a problem with the boot options. did a update and now its working perfectly. thx to all u guys

Yea you don't set your OS drive to primary anymore, you get a boot mgr option that you set to primary then your os drive to secondary. My bios did it automatically and I didn't realize and changed it which is how I found out.
