So I am trying to install windows 10 from my windows insider account download. I got the ISO file (oddly both times I downloaded it they were different sizes?) and i turned on my VM ware to make sure the install works before wiping my PC and potentially going into the land of bootloops. I am running into an issue, windows is asking me for my serial number...However I dont believe I got one? I tried my windows 7 key, but that didnt work. any thoughts?

***EDIT***

It may be important to note that I was not using windows 10 before this, I was using the 10 preview OS a while back and decided to hop over and give linux a try, then came back to good ol 7 after a while. so I'm coming from windows 7 professional 64 bit.

I assume you are doing a clean install rather than an upgrade, in which case it's not free, you'll need to upgrade first then find your key and do a fresh install with that.

Well yea, you need to have a key in some form, whether you pay for a key or you upgraded from a licensed version you still need a key, not sure what you were expecting.

That is how I did it... first upgraded, then re-installed, or rather made a "factory reset" because I wanted a clean install, but the "factory reset" was pretty fast, no more than 15 minutes I believe? :)
