XBOX ONE pc controller not connecting

Hey guys, So I bought my dad a XBOX one controller that has the cable for the pc, however it is not connecting. Does anyone have suggestions ? I downloaded the driver but it is not working. Could someone get back to me ASAP before my dad gets home. This is part of his present which includes a brand new pc and monitor for him.
