Hello, I currently live with a couple buddies and whenever my friend I play any sort of game online while another person is watching Netflix we get serious ping spikes and lag. We currently Pay for 50 mbps but we normally get 20-30 mbps while connected with an ethernet cable and sometimes it will down to 15 mbps. Would using a router that can switch between 2.4ghz bandwidth and 5 ghz make a difference? Right now for router and we have a modem that works as a router also. The only other thing I can think to do is upgrade our internet to 100 mbps but I'm not to educated on networking. So basically what I'm asking is how can i get it so we can play online and watch netfliz with no lag?

The ethernet cable should be able to handle 50mbps. That's about 6.4MB/s I think.

That's creepy. What kind of cable do you have plugged in? I have a 100 mbps line and there's never >10 mbps difference when I test the output.

I assume you're all connected through cables so a router which allows both 2.4 and 5 ghz bands will not make a difference since it's wi-fi. But if you're on the hunt for a new router then I would highly suggest getting a router which offer dual band capability.

50 mbps should be enough for both playing online games while streaming Netflix at the same time so I'd wait with changing to a 100 mbps line.
