Hey there guys/gals. This is my first post on this forum and I really hope some people can help me out here.

So I just did my first ever PC build today, and the PC is using Intel graphics and not my GTX 970. It's not even on device manager, it's not hidden there either. I checked.

All parts are brand new not used.

I'm using my PSU's VGA cable to connect to the PCI port on the GPU. The one that came with the GPU does not reach my PSU.

PC Specs:

Intel core i5 4690

Evga GTX 970 FTW+ Edition

Evga gold 750w PSU

Asus maximus VII Ranger motherboard

I have tried:

Putting the card from the 1st PCI to the 2nd (its currently in the second)

Tried to install drivers, but I cant because the nvidia program said no hardware is compatible.

Looked in the bios, can't find anything about on board graphics or anything. Anyone know?

Pictures:

Heres are pictures of the build.

Is it because of the PCI connectors?]

Any help is really appreciated.

How come you aren't running the top one (non relevant). It could be the PCI-E lane, it seems like it's clicked in there.

Actually you have to connect both 6+8 pin connectors into the GPU

Non relevant: It's a shame that you have such a nice case and motherboard yet you use the stock cooler *sigh*

So should I plug in those extra 2 things onto the bigger port?

NO, you need an 8 pin and a 6 pin power conector for that card. Check the packaging, it might have come with a molex to pci power adapter.

When in doubt, re-format.

Make sure you're using the PCI x16 speed slot, and plug in the video cables into the gpu on the other side of the expansion slots. Also, if you're using a DVI-D/I cord, plug it into your GPU's DVI slot that has a cross instead of just a line to the side of the pins.

Molex won't be good enough for his card. He'd need a new PSU if he doesn't have an 8-pin.

Heyyo,

As others have said, Evga GTX 970 FTW+ Edition needs all power connectors in. a 6 pin and an 8 pin.

Next is of course make sure your monitor cable is plugged into the video card and not the motherboard (so don't plug into the vertical part on the back of your PC. Plug it into the video card at the lower horizontal slots.

Here on newegg? The GPU should have came with two power connector adaptors. Use the ones that natively come with your PSU if they have 8 and 6 pin. If not? Then use those adaptors.

Hey, thanks for all the replies guys.

Surely an EVGA 750 Gold PSU MUST have come with multiple PCIe power cables, right?

Yes it does, it comes with 3 of the same lead.

it's the same as i posted in the pic. 8 pin to plug into the psu, and then theres a 6 pin + 2 pin.

Could I just used another one of those cables, and plug in the 6 pin with the 2 pin of the other cable, making 8 pins?

Dude, if it is your first time building a PC, PLEASE PLEASE read all of the maunals that came with your motherboard, GPU and PSU. They will explain everything nicely with pictures.

When in doubt, re-format.

you can use Molex with an Adapter

I know you can. I'm saying it won't generate enough power to power the GPU through molex. He needs to use the designated 6-8-pin ones.
