Windows 8, AMD, and Gaming

So recently my computer started having an issue with games in general. About every 1-2 minutes, the FPS would drop to about a third of its usual rate.  I thought it was the GPU, and reseating it seemed to solve the problem, but only temporarily.  Tonight I finally got tired of the bullshit, and decided to actually fix it. Turned out it was my FX-8120 all along. I had a setting in my BIOS (mobo is ASRock 970 Extreme3) to change the clock speed on the fly (1.4Ghz at idle, 3.2+ under load) Windows 8 (may do this on other windows versions, don't know) was underclocking my CPU to 1.4Ghz during the middle of games! Obviously in CPU intensive games (DotA 2, BF3) the FPS would take a severe dive.  Turned off that option, and viola, no more problem. Just posting this in case someone else is having this problem and is looking for a solution.
