700W PSU Advice

Go to solution Solved by quan289,

I'm in Australia and i'll probably be purchasing it from here http://umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=2. It sucks that Australian prices are notoriously higher than US :/

I'd like to keep it <$180. But I don't want to spend more than I have to, like SLI and crossfire capability won't be required :)

Yeah...Prices in Australia are indeed higher than the US, especially with certain brands like Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax, etc... Apparently, Cooler Master is one of them as well sadly...

http://www.vtechindustries.com.au/cooler-master-700w-vanguard-full-modular-power-supply-rs-700-afba

Anyways, if you are able to purchase it here, the Super Flower Golden Green 600w is an excellent unit that is also quiet. The Capstone I had mentioned is based off of this unit, so as the NZXT Hale90, PC Power and Cooling MKIII 750~850w, etc. http://www.itestate.com.au/pages/product/pdt_product_detail.faces?BeanName=productDetailAction&pcode=16156

Here's the Seasonic G SSR-550RM recommendation I had made for $115 AUD: http://www.mwave.com.au/product/sku-aa49474-seasonic_g_series_550w_power_supply_atx_eps_80plus

If you want to get the 650w variant of the Seasonic G, here: http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/137307_Seasonic_G_series_650W_PSU_80Plus.aspx

The HX650v2 is the same internally as the Seasonic G, btw. I typically don't recommend it (HX650v2) due to lack of four native PCIe connectors when the retail model does have four, but since you aren't SLIing, it doesn't really matter.

Please help me chose a solid reliable PSU (650 - 700W) that's silent, modular (preferably) and I won't have to worry about it for years ("futureproofability").

I was a rookie i didn't put much research into my last power supply, it's some coolermaster 650W. I now have my PC on my desk and it sounds like a jet taking off. (details of rig in sig)

Relevant info:
- Yes, I know 460's can be loud but I definitely will be getting a new GPU when ATI releases their new cards (basically pretend I have a GTX780).

My reasoning for 650-700W is because
- V unlikely to run 2x GPU setup
- 'futureproofing'

Every opinion and all advice is greatly appreciated

SeaSonic X650. Fully modular, all black cables, quiet, and good quality.  And not overly flashy either.

Doesn't Seasonic make a fan-less one?

Their highest wattage fanless unit is 520W.  Personally I think fanless PSUs are a bit of a gimmick anyway; since SeaSonic uses fans that are basically silent anyway, and they don't spin up unless their needed.  So as long as it stays cool enough, it is effectively fanless.  And if it does spin up, you'd better be glad it was there, because it needs it ;)

He said modular not fully modular.

yeah that's right it's okay if it's not fully modular.

So far out of the SeaSonic X650 and the Corsair HX650 the HX650 looks more promising because it's a lot cheaper

If it is unlikely that you going to be powering two GPUs, then a quality 550w unit would be plenty for even a 780. Something like the Seasonic G SSR-550RM or Rosewill Capstone 550-M are excellent.

Edit: What state/country are you from, btw? Also what's your budget?

O rly? I was so sold on getting 650W+. Even with overclocking?

Yep. What's the other system specification btw? And in case you didn't see my edit: What state/country are you from, btw? Also what's your budget?

If you want to spend more in case you are going to SLI though, the Cooler Master V700 is price very well atm as well. Assuming that you are from the US of course.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171080

It's $110.50 after promo and have a $30 rebate, which effectively make it a $89.50 if do not mind rebates and get it. It's based on the Seasonic X KM3 platform but with a higher quality FDB (while it doesn't have that semi-fanless mode switch, it should be more quiet than the original 2BB fans).

Thanks everybody for your help. I think the common theme here is Seasonic (@Glenwing, @piplupgao, @quan289). I'm leaning towards either the G series 550 or the 650 gold.

btw thanks @quan289 for helping me find a cheaper shop than the ones i know haha
